2017 Schedule

MONDAY: Lake Padden, 9:30-4:00PM

We will venture to this popular Bellingham hangout and explore the little known treasures that surround it off trail.  From ponds to creeks, fungus to foliage, we’re bound for discovery - and possibly a jump in the lake. This is a great place for epic games and there are countless memories waiting for us within the sandstone folds of the landscape, under sword ferns, and beneath giant cedars and big leaf maple.

Make sure to bring water shoes and a swimsuit if you plan on taking a dip in the lake!

Drop-off and pick-up: Drive south on South Samish Way for 2.4 miles. Turn right onto Lakeshore Drive (Lake Padden Golf Course/Dog Park entrance). Continue to the end of the road. We will meet at the south end of the lake near the dog park. Map.

TUESDAY: Whatcom Falls Park, 9:30-4:00PM

This 241-acre park has so much to offer! From waterfalls and natural sandstone sculptures, to pools teeming with crayfish and otters and acres of mysterious woodland. Just off-trail, where surprisingly few go, is a natural wonderland in the heart of Bellingham. We will follow the creek, hop into the forest, and see what we can find.

Drop-off and pick-up: From I-5, head east on Lakeway Drive for 1.5 miles. Turn left on Silver Beach Road. Drive 0.4 miles to the parking lot. Map.

WEDNESDAY: Bakerview Beach, 9:30-4:00PM

Bakerview Beach is one of the most memorable locations we will visit during our week of explorations. Prepare for epic tide flats filled with curious creatures, mud pits, roaming streams, and wide expanses of adventure. We will hike out into the mud flats and adventure into the Nooksack Delta.

Bring your swimsuits and a pair of  water shoes that have a heel and are closed-toed that won't come off. That mud is thick! Hats, sunglasses, extra water and sunscreen will also be key on this outing! Parents make sure to bring a change of clothes and protection for the inside of your car (a large garbage bag works)-- it will be a messy day!

Drop-off and pick-up: Drive west on Eldridge Avenue/Marine Drive approximately 4.5 miles from downtown Bellingham. Turn left on Bancroft Road and drive for 0.1 miles. Turn right at Olympic Way. Meet at the third house on the left (1403 Olympic Way), home of long time Wild Whatcom supporters who graciously let us use their beach access! Map.

Please note: Parking is very limited. We'll be there to meet you, so be prepared for a quick transfer.

THURSDAY: Larrabee State Park, 9:30-2:00PM Friday (overnight)

After meeting at the Larrabee State Park day use area, we will gather up and get ready for our extended time together. We’ll load up our overnight gear into the mentor’s cars and then head up the trail towards Fragrance Lake or trek along the trail to Clayton Beach. After spending the day getting lost in exploration and play we'll head back to Larrabee State Park set up camp, cook some food, build a campfire, play some more games, and perhaps have a night hike down to the beach.

Please use our 3-Day Pack List and adjust accordingly for our a single night.

Drop-off and pick-up: Drive south on Chuckanut Drive for 5 miles. Turn right into Larrabee State Park. Follow the road to the left and meet in the day use parking area. Map.

Reminder: A Discover Pass is required for all parking at Larrabee State Park. If you do not have a Pass, please stay with your vehicle and plan to make drop-off and pick-up quick.
