Lake Padden Park - West Entrance (meet at fields by restrooms)
Note for July 8-9 ONLY: Due to construction at the West Entrance of Lake Padden (asphalt repair project), camp on Wednesday, July 8 and Thursday, July 9 will move to the East Entrance of Lake Padden by the playground. The Wild Whatcom sandwich board will be out, as well as Wild Whatcom staff helping wave families down to find the right spot.
Sample Itinerary
Activities may vary depending on participant interests and variable safety considerations (i.e. weather, preparedness, support needs)
8:30-9:00: Drop-off* and Free Play
9:00-9:15: Opening Circle
Introductions: Share names and pronouns (optional)
Cover physical and heart safety
9:15-9:45: Snack
9:45-10:30: Exploration, play, and learning related to camp theme
Parts of a bird - Dress a mentor like a bird!
Nests - Learn about different types of nests, search for them up in trees, and build our own.
Beaks - Learn about the different shapes of beaks and what they are used for. Experiment with which beaks work best to eat different foods.
Language - Learn and listen to different bird calls. Practice communicating with each other through our own squawks and caws.
10:30-11:30: Bird ID Activities and Free Explore
Search for bird nests and play “Guess the Nest”
Build an eagle nest with dead, down, and detached materials
Seed pick-up activity
Play bird games: Owl Eyes, Birds & Worms, Turkey Vulture Tag, or Hawks and Birds
11:30-12:00: Lunch
12:00-12:30: Closing Circle
Attitude of Gratitude
12:30: Pick-up
*Drop-off will be a window from 8:30-9:00AM. Please do your best to arrive as close to 8:30AM as possible. We anticipate that it may take some time for your child to become comfortable as you depart and we start the day.
