Conor enjoys finding himself in nature and making community connections by sharing his love of the outdoors. He graduated with a B.S. in Environmental Science and a B.A. in Environmental Education from College of the Environment (formerly Huxley College) at Western Washington University (WWU) and has worked as a mentor, science teacher, and survival skills instructor in the woods of the Pacific Northwest and California since 2014.
When he's not in the woods, Conor enjoys reading science fiction, climbing and yoga at Vital, and rolling up a new character after a TPK.

Carmen Hixson
Summer Mentor
Carmen finds solace in the familiar ecosystems of the Pacific Northwest. Growing up, she had the opportunity to explore the beaches of the Olympic Peninsula and the forests of NE Washington. After graduating with a B.S. in Biology, Carmen led groups as an environmental educator in Pennsylvania and British Columbia.
Carmen enjoys connecting with her place and the people around her. She is grateful to be a part of the Wild Whatcom team this summer!

Corrie Laird
Summer Mentor
Corrie grew up in Seattle, WA, exploring local parks and camping in the shadow of Mount Rainier. Their passion for youth environmental education began as a teen volunteer at the Seattle Aquarium, where they developed a deep appreciation for marine life and public outreach.
Corrie earned a degree in Special Education and Elementary Education from Western Washington University (WWU), combining their love for teaching with a commitment to inclusive, hands-on learning. This unique blend of experience has led them to work with environmental organizations throughout Whatcom County, including the Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association (NSEA), where they engage students and community members in ecological restoration and salmon habitat education. Corrie is excited to continue inspiring a love for the outdoors with Wild Whatcom.

Ellie Harrison
Summer Mentor
Ellie is originally from St. Louis, MO, but recently moved to Bellingham and fell in love with it after spending nearly a decade in Colorado. She earned her M.S. in Conservation Leadership at Colorado State University and her B.A. in Organismal Biology and Ecology at Colorado College.
She has worked with a variety of environmental nonprofits and is excited to share her passion for nature with budding conservationists in this wonderful community.
In her free time, Ellie likes going for long walks, birding, tidepooling, playing pickleball, cooking, and reading.

Evelyn Callahan
Summer Mentor
Evelyn was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest and grew up hiking and backpacking with her family. She just graduated from Western Washington University (WWU) with a major in psychology with a focus in child development, and a minor in Salish Sea Studies. She’s been working in summer camps and other outdoor education settings for the past eight years and loves creating space for kids to have fun, build confidence, and explore their natural curiosity.
She recently obtained a Remote EMT certification and in her free time she loves cooking, foraging for wild foods, and paddleboarding in the bay.

Rose Valiant
Summer Mentor
Rose grew up in Washington and Oregon, spending time with her family exploring in the mountains. Her interest in environmentalism brought her to Western Washington University (WWU) where she graduated with a B.A. in Environmental Studies.
She has since been working as a teaching assistant and P.E. teacher, with her free time spent biking, hiking, and swimming throughout Whatcom County.
