Wild Whatcom’s cadre of volunteers is steadily growing. Not only do these amazing members of our team bring skills, passion, and a breadth of knowledge and lived experience; they also ensure that we receive diverse perspectives which inform our programs and the administrative efforts that support them. This month we’re shining the spotlight on board member Kelsi Stine-Rowe. After connecting with us through youth programming, she joined our fundraising committee in 2025. Her enthusiasm, work ethic and fundraising experience made it clear that she was a great fit for our board, which she joined in 2026. The Q&A below will help you get to know her:
Wild Whatcom: Kelsi, how did you first get involved in Wild Whatcom?
Kelsi: My kids do Neighborhood Nature after school.
Wild Whatcom: Why did you choose to join the Wild Whatcom Board? *
Kelsi: Wild Whatcom is a big part of what makes Bellingham a special place for families; it teaches kids and communities to feel at home in nature and how to explore outside.
Wild Whatcom: Which of your interests and skills do you find most relevant to your work on the board?
Communications, strategic planning, and fundraising.
Wild Whatcom: If you could be something in nature other than a human being, what would you be and why?
Kelsi: A whale! It's in my will that after I die I want to be cremated and sprinkled off the back of a ferry in a place where whales are so that part of me can be a whale someday. Any kind of whale is fine.
Wild Whatcom: Our mission statement reads: Wild Whatcom fosters lifelong connections to nature. What does that mean to you? Why is it important for everyone in our community? *
Kelsi: Helping people learn to connect with themselves and others, and to emotionally self regulate, through experiences in nature. In an increasingly high paced and technology driven society, this access is more important now than ever.
