Partner & Custom Outings

Join us outside with a custom outing! We can work with you, your business, your family, or organization to create an outing tailored to your group and event. Depending on the situation, Wild Whatcom can serve as an outside contractor or a co-partner on a grant or initiative that helps to reach our community in new and unique ways.

See examples of some recent partner outings below.

connections program

Connections aims to support every K-6 student in Mount Baker and Blaine School Districts with 5-10 hours of outdoor instruction on school grounds, at local parks, and off-site at Silver Lake and in North Cascades National Park during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 school years.

Wild Whatcom is partnering with five other groups including the Whatcom Coalition for Environmental Education to bring this innovative program to Whatcom County students. Read our year-one report to learn more about the programs and outcomes we saw in the 2021-22 school year.

Wild Whatcom has partered with school districts to support continued engagement and academic support for students during the summer.

In the summers of 2021 and 2022 Mount Baker School District Summer School served approximately 300 students in grades K-8. Wild Whatcom worked with Common Threads to offer a range of curriculum-aligned outdoor lessons.

Kulshan Middle Migrant Summer School is a continued partnership with Bellingham Public Schools, Vamos Outdoors Project, and several other community partners to offer afternoon outdoor enrichment that pairs with in-classroom learning for grades K-8 students of migrant families.

lydia place partner project

Wild Whatcom partnered with Lydia Place in spring 2023 to provide outdoor walks and activities for families housed through Lydia Place’s Campus Housing Program. The project was developed to help reintroduce families to the outdoors in a new and exciting way, cognizant of the reality that many families may have negative perceptions of the outdoors after recent experiences with homelessness.

For several years, thanks to the support of the Whatcom Community Foundation, Wild Whatcom partnered with two local housing complexes to provide free family gatherings and outings to youth of migrant families. These series of outings included transportation, gear, and food and brought youth to nearby natural spaces and sites such as the Marine Life Center.

opportunity council family Outings

Wild Whatcom has partnered with the Opportunity Council on several occasions to bring families to nearby natural spaces like Marine Park and Tennant Lake.

These opportunities engage local families with guided hikes and explorations and supplement existing programs through the Opportunity Council.
