School Field Trips
Take the classroom outside!
Wild Whatcom will work with you to create inspiring, hands-on learning experiences for public, private, and home-schooled students. Collaborating with teachers, we create field outings to supplement what is taking place in the classroom.
Our innovative curriculum aligns with the Next Generation Science Standards and the Common Core Standards, with learning enhanced by classroom visits.
Transportation
Wild Whatcom does not provide transportation for full classrooms (our busses collectively fit about 20 students). We do encourage schools to take advantage of the nature right in their backyards and will visit your school to determine what types of field trips we can do within walking distance of your building.

Please note: We do not always have capacity for field trips depending on a variety of factors (e.g. lead time in scheduling, number of staff required, availability in our schedule, etc.), but we try our best to work with more partners!
Standard Field Trips

You choose the topic and/or location. Wild Whatcom creates an outing plan linked to the Common Core Standards and Next Generation Science Standards.
Wild Whatcom staff will coordinate with school staff to determine meeting date/ location and discuss a basic outline for the field trip. Field trips are led by at least two Wild Whatcom staff.
Field Trip Topics
Beach Intertidal Zone Investigation (recommended for all grades)
Beach Intertidal Zone vs. Forest Investigation (recommended for all grades)
Observations in Nature (recommended for grades K-2)
Bug Log Investigation/Decomposers (recommended for grades 1-3)
Native Plants/Ethnobotany (recommended for grades 3-5)
Customized Trips including Teambuilding (recommended for all grades). Please specify in the Interest Form.
Custom Field Trips
Custom Field trips
Create a custom field trip for your school or class! Custom field trips are best if you want certain standards addressed or have specific outcomes in mind, but are not sure how to meet those goals. Custom field trips also work well if the group wants to go on a number of outings throughout the year.
A Wild Whatcom staff member will meet with teachers and collaborate on the plan for the day and the desired outcomes. Field trips are led by at least two Wild Whatcom staff.
